“I am writing in support of Ibrahim Coulibaly for SEIU 503 President. As a transgender woman, I can personally attest to Ibrahim consistently standing up for the LGBTQ+ community in ways that distinguish him from other SEIU 503 leaders. Ibrahim's commitment to inclusivity extends beyond mere rhetoric; he has consistently taken tangible actions to amplify marginalized voices within our union. His track record of advocacy demonstrates a deep understanding of the challenges faced by diverse members, making him uniquely qualified to lead us toward a more equitable future. Under Ibrahim's leadership, I have witnessed firsthand his unwavering dedication to fostering a culture of transparency and accountability within SEIU 503. His vision for the union encompasses not only addressing current issues but also proactively shaping policies that will benefit generations of workers to come. Ibrahim's leadership is characterized by integrity, empathy, and a profound sense of justice. I am confident that with Ibrahim at the helm, SEIU 503 will not only thrive, but also serve as a beacon of progress and solidarity for all its members.

I am writing in support of Ibrahim Coulibaly for SEIU 503 President. I met Ibrahim at the Oregon State Hospital in 2017. At that time, he was a union steward, and he was my first introduction to SEIU 503. Ibrahim’s passion for the position made me excited about the Union and inspired me to become an active member of the union. Before that time, I knew very little about the union, and even less about SEIU 503.

Ibrahim was approachable, relatable, and inspiring. These qualities made him an asset to the union. He excelled at recruiting and retaining union members and members wanted to give back to the union under his influence. Over the years I watched Ibrahim grow as a steward and natural leader. He took his position seriously and provided equable and inclusive supports to his fellow union members. He always followed through with his word and devoted a lot of time to his growth. This growth included, but is not limited to, having a seat on city council and representing SEIU at the central bargaining table. Ibrahim has been to conferences around the nation and is a passionate advocate for workers’ rights, safety, fair wages, and equitable hiring practices.

Ibrahim has demonstrated an impressive understanding of the many levels of local and state governments that shape the Oregon labor force, and labor force at large. He knows state service very well and knows the layers of politics that are required of a strong union leader. He maintains professional and respectful relationships with managers, agency leadership, Department of Administrative Services, and government offices (including the governor), to advocate for the unionized labor force.

Ibrahim brings much needed diversity to his leadership, which is in line with the State of Oregon’s goal to abolish health inequities, inequitable hiring practices, and promote inclusive access to resources needed to keep working families strong. He has demonstrated tireless advocacy for union members. Please consider him for SEIU 503 Union President, you can’t go wrong with that decision.

Andrea Kennedy-Smith

President Sublocal 200

Oregon Department of Human Services

Director of Human Services Coalition, former SEIU 503 Vice-President for Public Sector.

“I am proud to endorse Ibrahim for the position of President. With a proven track record of dedication to workers' rights and a deep understanding of how far away we have gotten from our union's values, he stands out as the best candidate to represent our interests.
Throughout his career, Ibrahim has demonstrated unwavering advocacy of workers rights. Ibrahim has consistently championed initiatives that benefit all members and have shown exceptional leadership in challenging times.
Ibrahim’s vision for the future aligns with our members goals, and he possesses the experience and integrity necessary to drive meaningful progress. I am confident that his leadership will bring about positive change and ensure that our voices are heard.
I encourage all members to support Ibrahim in the upcoming election. Together with Ibrahim leading us, we can work towards a more transparent, inclusive, diverse Board and more equitable future for all.”

“Ibrahim has common sense leadership skills. He is calm, critically thinks things through, and meets folks where they are. I believe he will make a great President.”

Jesse Neilson

“Ibrahim is a joyful warrior. I first met Ibrahim when I joined the Civil Rights Division at BOLI about three years ago. He warmly invited me to my first union meeting and has embraced me ever since - as he does with all new members. I have come to know Ibrahim not only as a valued colleague and union leader, but as a friend. He puts the ideals of equity into action every day. Ibrahim is an effective civil rights investigator, vindicating the civil rights of hard-working Oregonians who have been mistreated at work or where they live. As the president of our sub-local, Ibrahim has proven to be an effective advocate for us at BOLI, ensuring that all members are heard, especially those working outside of our Portland headquarters, and that our concerns are brought to management proactively and collaboratively. He knows that when we empower all our members and stand in solidarity with one another across our differences, we can build not only a better workplace, but a better society. I encourage members to join me in enthusiastically supporting Ibrahim for SEIU 503 President.”

Empowering Progress

Commitment to

Higher Education

With a deeply rooted commitment to the Higher Education, I am determined to secure a fair contract for university workers. Our educators and support staff deserve recognition and fair compensation for their invaluable contributions to shaping future generations. I will fight tirelessly to ensure that their needs are met and their voices heard.

Advocacy for

State Workers

For our dedicated state workers, I will advocate for a better contract that includes a crucial provision: a 2-step increase for those who are currently topped out. This step increase is essential to recognize the hard work and dedication of our long-serving members who have reached the ceiling of their pay scale. We must ensure that their loyalty and service are rewarded appropriately.

Support for

Homecare Workers

Homecare workers are the backbone of our community, providing essential care and support to those who need it most. I am fully committed to fighting for fair pay for homecare workers and ensuring that their wages are paid on time. Timely and fair compensation is not just a matter of justice but of respect for their vital contributions

Advocacy for Nursing

Home Workers

Nursing home workers deserve a living wage and safe workplaces. These dedicated professionals care for our most vulnerable populations and deserve to work in environments that prioritize their safety and well-being. I will champion policies that secure living wages and enforce safety standards to protect our nursing home workers.

Commitment to Nonprofit &

Local Government Workers

Nonprofit and local government workers play a critical role in our society, often under challenging conditions. I am committed to ensuring fair wages and employment security for these workers, recognizing their dedication to serving our communities. Their work is invaluable, and they deserve stability and respect in their employment.
